Contemporary music

To clarify the concept of contemporary music in contrast to light music, pop music or jazz, often the words ‘contemporary classical music’ are used. Contemporary music stands out by being innovative with respect to timbre, harmony, rythm, notation and often the use of unusual instruments or unusual use of common instruments. It was Stravinsky who, at the start of the 20th century, started this innovation in his Sacre du Printemps.
