Looking for new challenges
For this concert, the CoMAMaastricht Ensemble collaborates for the first time with a choir, namely the Maastricht Chamber Choir. Mark Hendriks, winner of third prize and audience award of the 2021/2022 CoMAMaastricht Composition Competition, has spent his prize money on writing a new composition for flexible ensemble and choir, Greed is good, sharing is better.
A composition for 18 harmonicas, Dust Bowl # 3, came our way via the English CoMA library. And so, the connection was made with Hon Ning Cheung, promoter/player of the (harmonic) harmonica and composition student at the Maastricht Conservatory. She is writing a new work for choir and harmonica Im Schilf. This means that no fewer than two world premieres will be performed during this concert!
In addition, the CoMAMaastricht Ensemble, Kamerkoor Maastricht and Hon Ning Cheung also separately perform some contemporary compositions, including among other by the Limburg composer Frans Gulikers, the Finnish composer Rautavaara and Hon Ning Cheung.
