Workshop "Listening to Place" in the context of the Day of the Composer 2024
In the context of the Day of the Composer on June 15, 2024 the Workshop 'Listening to Place' is given by composer Alison Isadora and HyperTheremin player Jan-Bas Bollen, in collaboration with the CoMAMaastricht Ensemble. The workshop consists of three half-day sessions.
For whom?
This workshop is open to all amateur musicians and singers who enjoy a musical adventure and would like to push their musical boundaries. All levels and ages are welcome!
When?
The workshop is spread over 3 days and takes place in Maastricht. The final presentation on the third day is part of the program of the Day of the Composer.
Saturday May 25 10am - 2.30pm - learn to listen, exploring sounds, collecting
them and converting them into sounds
Saturday June 8 10am - 1pm - rehearsal
Saturday June 15 12:00 - 16:00pm - Day of the Composer: rehearsal and presentation
What will we be doing?
In the workshop 'Listening to Place', Alison and Jan-Bas take us into the world of the sounds around us. During the first day we are presented with different ways of listening. This makes us more aware of everything that can be heard around us. Then we go outside to record sounds in different 'Places'. We then convert them into sounds on our instruments and other objects (for example found at the 'Place').
Alison and Jan-Bas create a composition from the material we developed, in which the HyperTheremin forms the connection between the recorded and performed sounds. On the second and third day we will rehearse the composition. There will be plenty of room for your own input. The result will be presented on the Day of the Composer. Listeners are invited to actively participate. They will receive their own graphic score, made by students of the Brede Spoor led by Marijk Greweldinger.
How can you register?
Send an email to info@comamaastricht.nl, stating your name, instrument and age. There are NO costs involved! We expect you to participate during all three days.
